Frequently Asked Questions
Why are you selling the Health Cards?
My goal is to help people find relief from depression. I suffered for too many years and I don't want people to ever have to go through what I went through. If you're depressed, you can't live life to the fullest. You need relief and you need a strong plan that will work even when you're tired, unmotivated and down on yourself. I want to prevent suicide (it really is possible) and I want to show people that they really can take control of this illness and lead a normal life full of joy and stability. I also sell the cards as my business as I can't work in a traditional job environment. I have learned my own triggers and have found work that can support me and at the same time help me stay well. I want the same for everyone who struggles with depression.
Treating depression can be really expensive. I wanted to create something that people could buy one time and then use for the rest of their lives. The Health Cards save so much money. They teach people to manage the illness on their own and how to ask for help from the people in their lives including doctors, friends and family members.
Are the Health Cards easy to download?
Yes, the process is very simple. Once you order the system, you will have access to the download section of the web site. You then click on the files you want to download and they are sent to your computer. You can open the files and print them for your personal use. You can make as many copies as you need for friends and family members.
Can the Health Cards help children with depression?
Yes. The Health Cards work very well with children. They help families work together to create a holistic treatment plan that is consistent and effective. They also help even very young children learn how to manage their own illness. When children see that they have the same symptoms as everyone else with depression, they will hopefully not be so hard on themselves and are more likely to see depression as something physical instead of something wrong with them personally.
Can I get the Health Cards in a book store?
This web site is the only place to purchase the Health Cards at this time. They will be published eventually, but for now they are only available in download form.
Do you have any other books?
I have two other elelectronic books: The Health Cards for Bipolar Disorder and Bipolar Happens!
My traditionally published book (Loving Someone with Bipolar Disorder: Understanding and Helping Your Partner - (New Harbinger Publications 2004) is available in all major bookstores and on line at amazon.com. My second traditionally published book Take Charge of Bipolar Disoder (Time/Warner) will be out in the fall of 2006.
Do the Health Cards replace medications?
I'm not a doctor and I don't work with medications. I do feel that medications can be a very important part of a comprehensive treatment system. My main goal is to help people treat the illness comprehensively so that they can take less medications or only take them when there is a crisis that upsets the brain. People who have trouble with side effects often need an alternative to medications or help with using the medications more effectively. When I wasn't able to take medications for bipolar disorder and my depression would not get better, I knew I needed something holistic that I could use on my own or I wouldn't be alive for much longer. I now use a small dose of an antidepressant and anti psychotic even though I still have trouble with side effects. I have now found medications that work along with my Health Cards.
Please discuss all medications with a qualified doctor and make sure that you don't go off medications without at first consulting with a health care professional. Having said all of this, I do feel that mild depression can be treated very successfully without constant medications - but it still helps to have a doctor and therapist to help you with the process. If you are like myself and tend to have chronic, serious depression then medications are a necessity.
